Finite Element Method Applied to Materials Mechanics

Code: CEM 184

Credits: 05

Elective subject

Contents:

  • Study of linear elastic mechanical behavior (Hooke’s Law) and mechanical strength criteria in three-dimensional problems
  • Introduction to the Finite Element Method (FEM)
  • Application of FEM to a simplified problem (with linear elasticity) of a uniaxially loaded bar: step-by-step demonstration and implementation of the same example using Finite Element (FE) software
  • Discussion of case studies using FE software, considering and combining constitutive models of metallic, polymeric, ceramic, and composite materials, including heat transfer and fracture mechanics approaches
  • Exercises, exams, reports, and/or presentations as components of the final grade
