Pedro Ivo Batistel Galiote Brossi Pelissari, a PhD student graduated from PPGCEM, received an Honorable Mention from the CAPES Prize for Thesis 2020 in the area of ENGINEERING II. His PhD dissertation, entitled Development of dense and porous engineered refractory ceramics, was supervised by Prof. Dr. Victor Carlos Pandolfelli and Prof. Dr. André Rocha Studart (ETH Zürich, Switzerland). The PhD dissertation addresses the theoretical and experimental development of a bio-inspired refractory ceramic foam with outstanding mechanical performance in a wide range of temperatures. The work developed resulted in the publication of 4 scientific papers in Ceramics International and 2 scientific papers in the Journal of the European Ceramic Society, one of which received the JECS TRUST AWARD award for best paper published in the Journal of the European Ceramic Society in 2019. The results were presented at important international congresses such as ALAFAR 2016, UNITECR 2017, ICC7 2018 and ALAFAR 2018, and received the award for best work at ALAFAR 2018. This knowledge allowed Pelissari to create a Startup, which was awarded a PIPE project from FAPESP in 2018, which resulted in a Joint Venture in 2020 with ArcelorMittal company for the production of high-performance refractory materials for large multinational corporations such as ArcelorMittal, Kinross as clients , Gerdau, Ambev and Samarco.
