Article published as the cover of the journal Advanced Engineering Materials

The scientific journal “Advanced Engineering Materials" (Wiley) selected the study performed by the PPGCEM-UFSCar student Marcella Gautê Cavalcante Xavier, supervised by prof. José Eduardo Spinelli, “The Roles of Ni and Co in Dendritic Growth and Tensile Properties of Fe-Containing Al–Si–Cu–Zn Scraps under Slow and Fast Solidification Cooling” for the back cover of its March 2022 issue, Volume 24, Issue 3, 2270013.

This work has the participation of 2 other PPGCEM students: Brenda Juliet Martins Freitas, Guilherme Lisboa de Gouveia, in addition to prof. Amauri Garcia from Unicamp, and Prof. José Eduardo Spinelli,  professor at PPGCEM and work supervisor.
The article describes the possibilities of microstructural control through solidification techniques in order to improve the application properties of Fe-containing Al-Si alloys or Fe-contaminated Al-Si scraps. Additions of Co and Ni proved to be effective in correcting Al alloys contaminated with Fe, which may be a viable alternative in Al scrap recycling processes.
