Prof. Piter Gargarella was the winner of the “Journal of Alloys and Compounds - Rising Star Award 2023”, contested among young scientists with less than 10 years of PhD defense.
Prof. Conrado Ramos Moreira Afonso was the winner of the “Journal of Alloys and Compounds - Advanced Career Researcher 2023” prize, contested among scientists with more than 10 years of defense of doctorate.

Four PPGCEM students were honored with the award given to the SBPMat in homage to Bernhard Gross, pioneer of Brazilian materials research, and who received awards for the best contributions and posters presented to students at each symposium. The award-winning
students were:
Luana Cristina Miguel Rodrigues, PhD student supervised by Prof. Walter José Botta Filho, for presentation on the work poster “Wear-resistant Fe-Cr-Mo-Nb-B coating by plasma transferred arc” in Symposium N.
Jéssica Bruna Ponsoni, PhD student supervised by Prof. Guilherme Zepon for the oral presentation of the work “Reversible room temperature hydrogen storage in the (Ti0.5Zr0.5)(Fe0.33Mn0.33Cr0.33)2 multicomponent alloy designed by computational thermodynamic tool” in Symposium N.
Brenda Juliet Martins Freitas, PhD student supervised by Prof. Claudemiro Bolfarini, for presentation on the work poster “Wear and corrosion behavior of a boron-modified duplex stainless steel produced by laser powder bed fusion” in Symposium Q.
Jhonata Rafael Verza, PhD student supervised by Prof. Ana Paula Luz for the oral presentation of the work “Main parameters and challenges for producing high-quality alumina-based ceramic parts via digital light processing technique” in Symposium Q.
Also, there is an award from the ACS Publications Prizes, sponsored by the journals from ACS Publications, a division from the American Chemical Society, with awards for the best student contributions of all events. The awarded student was:
Symposium Q – Poster Presentation. Brenda Juliet Martins Freitas. Wear and corrosion behavior of a boron-modified duplex stainless steel produced by laser powder bed fusion.
Finally, there are two awards from the RSC Prices, sponsored by the journals of the Royal Society of Chemistry, with the awards for the best student contributions to the entire event. To award-winning students were:
Symposium N – Poster presentation. Luana Cristina Miguel Rodrigues. Wear-resistant Fe-Cr-Mo-Nb-B coating by plasma transferred arc.
Symposium N – Oral Presentation. Jessica Bruna Ponsoni. Reversible room temperature hydrogen storage in the (Ti0.5Zr0.5)(Fe0.33Mn0.33Cr0.33)2 multicomponent alloy designed by computational thermodynamic tool.
The PPGCEM congratulates all Professors and students for these important achievements.
