PhD graduate from PPGCEM DEMa-UFSCar receives 1st place at the Gustav Eirich Award 2025

Dr. Murilo Henrique Moreira, a PhD graduate supervised by Prof. Dr. Victor Carlos Pandolfelli at PPGCEM, achieved 1st place in the renowned Gustav Eirich Award 2025, presented at the International Colloquium on Refractories 2025, held in Aachen, Germany. The award featured competitors from ten different nationalities, including South Korea, Belgium, France, and Poland.

Dr. Murilo Henrique Moreira, a graduate from the Materials Science and Engineering Program (PPGCEM) at the Department of Materials Engineering of the Federal University of São Carlos (UFSCar), received 1st place in the Gustav Eirich Award 2025. The prize was awarded during the 67th International Colloquium on Refractories (ICR), the largest European event in the field of refractories, which brought together more than 700 participants in Aachen, Germany. An international jury of experts evaluated the scientific works from researchers who had completed their Ph.D. or postdoctoral studies within the past two years, representing ten different nationalities, including South Korea, Belgium, France, and Poland. Murilo’s PhD thesis, entitled “Advances on Refractory Castables Drying Process Coupling Experimentation and Computational Modelling”, supervised by Prof. Dr. Victor Carlos Pandolfelli, stood out for its innovative approach in integrating advanced computational modeling with in-situ imaging techniques to study the drying process of refractory castables. This is the third time that PhD graduates from the Refractory Materials Engineering Group (GEMM-UFSCar) supervised by Prof. Dr.  Victor Carlos Pandolfelli have received the Gustav Eirich Award. In the first edition, in 2009, Dr. Mariana Braúlio de Albuquerque won 1st place, and in 2012 Dr. Tiago Marcolino de Souza received 2nd place.
