Admission Process

The Graduate Program in Materials Science and Engineering (PPGCEM) offers masters and doctoral graduate courses, as well as post-doctoral positions. Graded with a maximum score by the Brazilian Research Foundation CAPES, the program has completed 40 years of success trajectory in 2019.

  • Patent: Polymers degradation during extrusion can now be quantified in real time The patent, result of the doctoral programme developed by Ademar Tibola, a former Ph.D. student from the PPGCEM, discloses an in-line optical detector to monitor the polymer extrusion process consisting of a refrigerated set of two emitting sensors and a receiver, both operating in the near infrared range, NIR. Such a system detects thermomechanical degradation of polymers during extrusion but can also be used in thin-walled plastic products.
  • Student from PPGCEM stands out in the 1st Innovation and Entrepreneurship Workshop of the 17th Brazilian Polymer Congress The PhD candidate Marcos Vinícius Batista Nicolino, under the guidance of Professor Dr. Lidiane Cristina Costa, delivered a 3-minute pitch to a panel of 5 CEOs from technology companies, being selected as the best presentation. During the pitch, the student presented a conceptual startup developed by his team during the workshop.
  • Student from PPGCEM had a video awarded during the MS&T23 technical meeting and exhibition The video "Does stained glass of cathedral windows flow?" was one of the award winners at the MS&T23 technical meeting and exhibition in a competition organized by the Ceramic and Glass Industry Foundation. This video was created by Ricardo Felipe Lancelotti, a doctoral student at PPGCEM supervised by Prof. Dr. Edgar Dutra Zanotto, and Jacob Lovi (University of California). The video described the urban legend about the apparent flow of stained-glass in medieval cathedral windows throughout the centuries.
  • PPGCEM student awards prize for best oral presentation at international congress PhD candidate Aline Vasconcelos Duarte, supervised by professors Dr. Juliano Marini and Dr. Francys Kley Vieira Moreira, was awarded in the Best Oral Presentation category at the 30th Jornadas de Jóvenes Investigadores, promoted by AUGM.
